Thank you for your interest in the Savanna Police Dept. There are a number of steps that you must successfully complete before being considered for employment. The Savanna Police Dept. hiring process falls under The Police and Fire Commission. Those individuals who successfully complete the steps will be ranked on an eligibility list. You must successfully complete each step to be eligible for hiring. The steps are listed below:

To start the hiring process fill out and print out the initial application and Background waiver from this page. Complete the application and the background waiver and return them to the Savanna Police Department. When the application and the background waiver are received, you will be given further instructions on the hiring process.

Initial application filled out and returned: (Call for information concerning dead lines for application) Physical agility Test given on (Call for information) Application and Background questionnaire. Written test Oral Interview Background Check Chief's interview After completion of the hiring process, the Police and Fire Commission will certify an eligibility list to the Chief of Police, who will hire off the list. After hiring, a medical exam will be given along with a drug screen. New employees serve a one-year probation period and must attend a 12-week police academy in Champaign, Illinois, unless already certified by the State of Illinois.
